A Warm Welcome

A warm welcome to this website which it is hoped will give you helpful information about the Trust and how to apply to become a resident.

Welcome

The history of the Laverton Housing Trust can be traced back to the late 1800s when benevolent mill-owner, Abraham Laverton built 39 houses in Prospect Square here in Westbury, seven of which were set aside as almshouses.

Today the Trust maintains one of the original houses and 14 other houses and flats within the town to provide independent living accommodation for older people of Westbury, and the neighbouring villages, who are in financial need.

Our aim is to provide good quality, well-maintained homes in a friendly, welcoming and safe place where each resident has the opportunity to live an independent and fulfilled life in a small but thriving community.

Well-maintained homes

The Trust has a rolling maintenance programme which ensures that repairs and redecorations are regularly carried out.

Thriving community

The almshouses are situated close to the centre of Westbury, set in peaceful surroundings but which provide a vibrant, ready-made community of like-minded mature people.

Friendly, welcoming & safe

Regular social events encourage a sense of community and reduce social isolation. The Trust performs the role of a “good neighbour” exercising a general and unobtrusive supervision of residents’ wellbeing. Residents can be safe in the knowledge that if support is needed, it will always be on hand.

These monthly maintenance costs, which are often less than the market rate for rented accommodation are used to cover maintenance of the buildings, such as windows, doors, painting and decorating and also cover the maintenance of the outside spaces around the properties.
